“On a rainy winter night, The Songbook Series’ Holiday Songbook was just the warm and cozy tonic I needed. It is a really fun and festive celebration of the holiday music that is so much a part of our culture, especially at this time of the year. (It has) just enough history and facts about the songs and songwriters to satisfy nerds like me, without taking away from the wonderful music.
James talked about the origin of holiday music in the form of hymns, the tradition of caroling, and the first popular song about Christmas - Irving Berlin's White Christmas, written for the 1942 movie Holiday Inn. They performed around a grand piano which added a nostalgic and festive touch.
Highlights include:
Silent Night in the original German, as well as a rendition of Barbra Streisand's version of Jingle Bells, and a super fun All I Want for Christmas is You and the Darlene Love classic Christmas (Baby Please Come Home).”
